Cajun's EasyGel™ Bath & Shower Gel Instructions NEVER heat Cajun's bath and shower gel base. Heat will harm the thickness of the gel base. The recommended ratio of fragrance oil to gel base is .5% (one-half percent) fragrance to 16 oz of gel base. This equates to about 1/8 of a teaspoon of fragrance oil. Below are the exact instructions we used for making 16 oz of our fragrant bath and shower gel. You will need to adjust your measurements accordingly if you want to make more or less shower gel at one time. Be sure to read the directions completely before you begin. You can also print these instructions out for future reference. DO NOT add all of the fragrance oil to the gel base at one time. The gel base will become diluted and watery if you add the fragrance oil too quickly or all at once. We had excellent results adding about 10 drops of fragrance oil at a time (about 30 drops of fragrance oil will equal 1/8 tsp.). Stir and then letting the base rest a few minutes before adding any more fragrance. Never add more than 10 drops of fragrance at a time. To make things easy, we put the skin safe fragrance oil we wanted to fragrant the bath/shower gel into a 1 oz white cylinder bottle and used a yorker tip to drop the fragrance oil slowly into the gel base. You can do it however you want, just be sure you're adding the fragrance oil very slow! Here are the exact step-by-step instructions we used when making the bath and shower gel. Step (1) - Pour (by weight, not volume) 16 oz of gel base into a bowl large enough to hold it. You will need a scale that will tare to zero once the bowl is set onto it. Step (2) - Decide which skin safe fragrance you wish to use for your bath/shower gel. ALWAYS add your fragrance oil slowly, using some type of dropper so that you don't dilute the gel base. Add 10 drops of fragrance oil at a time and don't stir in the traditional sense. Instead of stirring use a spatula to fold the fragrance into the gel base as you would if making a cake. Fold the fragrance in gently and slowly, but enough so that all of the fragrance is mixed throughly with the gel base. Let the gel base rest a few minutes before adding your next drops of fragrance oil. You will follow this procedure until your gel base is fragranced to your desired strength. Remember that each fragrance will react differently to the gel base. Some will dilute the gel base quicker than others, so ALWAYS add your fragrance oil to the gel base very slowly. Step (3) - If you want your gel base tinted or colored add a skin safe dye to it. (Be certain your dye is skin safe.) You will fold the dye into the gel base just as you did with the fragrance oil, do not stir. As with the fragrance oil, ALWAYS add your dye very slowly. You won't need near the amount of dye as you did fragrance oil so start with 1 drop at a time, or less. Dyes can also dilute the gel base. Our skin safe dyes are gylercin based, not water based, so they will hold up in the bath and shower gel better than most. Step (4) - Your bath and shower gel base should still appear thick and should not be runny. You will want to store your new bath and body gel product in a gallon jug or a similar container. The best way to do that is to use a funnel and pour the gel base into the clean and empty gallon jug. Once you have the gel base in a gallon jug for storage, you can easily fill your shower gel bottles by using a 1 gallon pump to pump your finished product into the bottles. You will notice that the finished product will appear to have a lot of tiny air bubbles immediately after you make and fill your bath and shower gel bottles. Don't worry about that, the bubbles will completely disappear after a few days and leave your bath and shower gel completely clear.
