  How to make Ribbon Soap A free step by step guide

These ribbon soap bars are really fun to make and you can match your choice of fragrances with your candles and aroma beads if you like making gifts such as a nice basket that you can shrink wrap or tie with a pretty bow. They are very unique and no two will turn out exactly alike. Be sure that you are using skin safe fragrances for your soap making. Our web site lists all of our fragrance oils that are skin safe.

Step 1: Select your mold. We recommend a mold with a fairly deep cavity such as our Z-13 (a 2 cavity square mold), Z-14 ( a 2 cavity oval mold) or Z-18 ( a 4 cavity round, oval and heart mold) or one of the molds that come in the ribbon soap making kit.

Step 2: Decide whether you want to mix different color soap ribbons or a single color soap ribbon to make your soap. Don't try to put too much, or too many soap ribbons in the mold and try to be careful that you don't break the ribbon too much. You'll need to get the soap ribbon where it is just below the top of the mold so that all of it will be covered once you pour your clear overpour.

Step 3: Melt your soap base following our step by step soap making process and and add your desired fragrance oil. You only need about 1/2 oz. of fragrance oil per LB of soap base to make a very rich, highly fragrant bar of soap. Many customers use even less than that. We recommend that you test a few bars to see what is going to be right for you.

Step 4: These soaps look great with just a clear soap base overpour. Some people have slightly tinted the clear soap base just enough to give it another dimension. You'll have fun playing with this step to see what you like best. Here is a tip: Don't get your overpour soap base so hot that it begins to melt the soap ribbon because then you will get bleeding of the soap ribbons into the bar and it won't be nearly as attractive. Pour at around 125 degrees for the best results.

Step 5: You may see some bubbles begin to form on the top of the soap as it begins to harden. If this happens spritz it with your spray bottle of alcohol and they will magically disappear leaving you a perfect, smooth bar of soap.

Step 6: Be sure to let the soap harden and cool completely before you attempt to remove it from the mold. If you poured at the proper temperature and the soap has cooled completely it will easily remove from the mold. If you try to force it out you're going to crack your mold rendering it useless for another use.

Step 7: You should now be holding your unique soap ribbon bar of soap and there should be a very nice smile on your face as you think about all the people you can make happy with your creation.
