A case of flake soy wax weight is approximately 50 lbs.

Soy wax is the latest craze in the candle making industry. This pure vegetable wax has taken the candle making industry by storm. Soy wax enthusiasts point to several factors that make soy wax the fastest growing wax on the market today. Soy wax is completely natural, clean burning and non-toxic, made from renewable resources, it produces significantly less soot, and it is perfectly safe around children and pets, it burns longer than paraffin wax and it helps the American farm worker. Soy wax is very easy to work with because it comes in flake form rather than the slabbed wax form of it's paraffin counterpart. Although soy wax doesn't quite give the scent throw of paraffin wax, many people consider the pluses of a natural and cleaner burning wax to be a satisfactory alternative. We offer several different soy waxes so we're going to tell you about each one, then you can decide which one is best suited for your needs.

It took us years of researching virtually every soy wax on the market before we found the product that met our rigid standards of excellence. We are proud to be a distributor of EcoSoya™ soy wax. Until recently the downfall of soy wax has been that it simply made ugly candles. If you, like many candle makers have tried soy wax in the past and decided against it because the candles would discolor, flake and crumble apart, you're in for a real treat if you decide to try our EcoSoya™ line of soy waxes. There have been vast improvements made to the texture and capabilities of these versatile soy waxes. We offer EcoSoya™ soy waxes in all major applications, container wax, tart wax, votive wax, and pillar wax, all are made with 100% natural soy beans, and one, the EcoSoya CB-XceL is a 100% soy wax.

Soy wax can basically be broken down into 2 categories. Soy wax for container candles and soy wax for pillars and/or votives. These are not interchangable waxes. You can not use the EcoSoya PB (pillar/votive bend) to make container candles and you can't use any of the EcoSoya container waxes to make pillar or votive candles. The reason is because the container waxes are made to adhere to a container, thus they will not ever release from a mold. By the same token the pillar/votive wax is a much harder wax and would not make a good container candle. The wax would rattle around in the container and it would not burn properly. So there you have it, basically you have a soy wax for jar/container candles and a soy wax for pillar/votive candles.

In the chart you will going to notice that we offer 3 different versions of EcoSoya™ soy wax for container candles.. You're probably wondering why so I'll give you the reasoning and I will describe each wax in the fairest manner possible so you can make an informed decision about which wax is right for you. We also offer 1 EcoSoya™ soy wax for making pillar candles, votive candles and tarts.

We are proud to offer these following Ecosoya™ soy wax products:

EcoSoya CB-135 Soy Wax - Melt point 122° F - This was the original soy wax. It is a 100% vegetable wax made with over 90% soybeans and less than 10% other botanical oils. It is an excellent soy wax in it's own right and many people that started with this wax years ago still prefer to use it so we stock it for them. I don't recommend it as a beginner wax because it can produce frosting (discoloration) if not processed perfectly. If you're a beginner either the CB Advanced or CB XceL would be a wiser choice because they're easier to work with. However, this wax is the preferred wax for making soy massage candles. If you decide to make soy massage candles be certain that you only are using a skin safe fragrance oil. Recommended fragrance load is 10 - 12%.

EcoSoya CB-Advanced - Melt point 111° F - This container wax came to be as an improved version of the CB-135. This was the original soy wax. It is a 100% vegetable wax made with over 90% soybeans and less than 10% other botanical oils. It is much less resistant to the frosting and discoloration that is so common amongst most soy waxes. It offers good adhesion to glassware, excellent scent throw and gives a even burn pool with consistent color retention. At the writing of this update this is the best selling container soy wax but the EcoSoya CB-XceL is quicking gaining ground. Recommended fragrance load is 6 - 10%.

EcoSoya CB-XceL - Melt point 125° F - This is the newest version of soy waxes and it is quickly becoming the best seller of all container soy waxes on the market. This is one of the few waxes on the market today that can claim to be a 100% pure soy wax with no added botanical oils or any other waxes. In my humble opinion, as a 15 year candle maker, this EcoSoya CB-XceL is the best on the market. It is extremely frost resistant, it offers excellent adhesion to glassware, it requires only one pour and new technology allows for top surface re-melting. It gives the best scent throw out of any soy wax that I've tested with an even burn pool and consistent color retention. This is the best soy wax gets. Recommended fragrance load is 10 - 12%.

EcoSoya PB - Melt point 130° F - This is the soy wax for votives, tarts and pillar candles. It has such of a superiority compared to any other pillar/votive soy wax on the market. It is a 100% vegetable wax made with over 90% soybeans and less than 10% other botanical oils. EcoSoya™ has effectively created a formula specifically for votive, tarts and pillar candle applications. This wax gives you a smooth, silky smooth candle finish. It will not crack, flake, break or discolor like many other soy waxes on the market when poured at the proper temperatures. It offers excellent scent throw and it self releases from the mold so you don't need to use mold release with this molding soy wax.

A case of flake soy wax weight is approximately 50 lbs.

All of the EcoSoya™ soy wax is manufactured in flake form which is much easier to work with than breaking up and/or cutting the slabs of wax, which is necessary when working with paraffin wax. When melting your EcoSoya™ soy wax, bring the temperature of the wax to between 160-190 degrees. Don't ever let the wax get above 200 degrees because it can discolor (yellow) under heat duress. Be sure to stir frequently in order to keep all of your wax the same temperature. You can add your color and fragrance oil seperately, anytime your wax temperature is between 160-190 degrees. Be sure you stir both your color and your fragrance oil for at least 2 minutes in the melted wax so it has a chance to bind properly with the wax. If you pour your candles when your wax is real hot you will have a chance of discoloration and/or cracking. Keep reading below for more information regarding proper temperatures and the making of your soy candles.

If you've ever worked with soy wax before you know that temperature is key with regards to making a soy candle that looks pretty. The tough thing is that not one temperature is good for everyone, there will be a variance from person to person just because of the climate, humidity and environment. I can give you some good starting points but the final outcome will have to be tweaked by you. It's not going to be as hard as it sounds. Just keep this in mind, soy wax really needs to be poured when it is just above the gelling point. If you've poured your candle and you get cracking, flaking or discoloration then you probably poured too hot. If you experience difficulties with your pour temp try a lower or higher temperature in increments of 10°. You can remelt your candles and start over if you don't like the outcome.

Cool your soy wax candles at room temperature. The containers should be about 1/2 inch apart to allow air circullation for even cooling. The container should remain open during the cooling process for at least 24 hours. Candles should be allowed to sit undisturbed for at least 48 hours before test burning.

Test burning: It is very important to test burn every type and combination of soy wax candle that you make to ensure it will perform safely and up to your expectations! Your burn pool (melted soy wax once the candle is lit) should reach about 1/4 - 1/2 inch without causing your candle to smoke or your wick to mushroom. Since you get your scent throw from the melt pool it is important that your melt pool is correct. It can take about 1 hour for each inch in diameter to achieve your melt pool for soy wax. For instance, if the diameter of your candle is 2 inches then it should achieve it's proper melt pool within 2 hours.

Every combination of containers, wax, dye, fragrance, and wick must be tested for burn quality.
